Greyhound Buses - Total crap transit system on the US. Expect plenty of layovers, no sleep, cancelled busses, and overpriced rides. Horrible... but the only choice between major (and minor) cities if you aren't hitchhiking, and can't find a ride through a ride-board.

Public Transit system - Doesn't have a subway, but does have some busses, and a nifty raised tram-way that's free in the winter.

LaSalle Hotel - 1113 Canal Street, Louisiana 70112, New Orleans ($40) - total crap hotel conveniently located 1 block from Bourbon St

India House Hostel - Dirty, but friendly hostel. Only one I'd recommend (from what I've heard). Try the $4 cajun breakfast!!

Hearst Castle (a.k.a. La Cuesta Encantada) - The famous estate half the size of Road Island whose owner bode in his will, never to stop being built. Also far from SF in San Simeon, but worth seeing. (Stay in a Bed and Breakfast in Cambria)
