Los Angeles, California
February 12, 2004

Well, I was supposed to go to San Diego from Austin, but as fate would have it, I ended up heading to San Francisco (the best thing to happen to me in the States!) . LA was on the way, and it was either a 2 hour lay-over in the station with all the freaks followed by a 4AM arrival in SF, or a few hours in LA on the weekend. I had learned LA surprisingly well in previous trips, so I knew where to head. So though I only had one evening, I made the most of it. I only went to West Hollywood, and Santa Monica/Venice Beach. West Hollywood was the winner, as Santa Monica/VB were completely dead and shut down at that time of year. Though there's no picture here, I met two of the LA homeless characters on the 45 minute bus ride between towns. One had braces and wore a sign around his neck that read "HOMELESS". The other claimed to be an old baseball player, and challenged the whole bus to innumerable rounds of home-made trivia revolving around race. It was actually a good time on an otherwise boring bus ride. These are just pictures of some of the clubs and nightlife in West Hollywood.
