Austin, Texas
February 9, 2004 - February 10, 2004

I only stopped in Austin for 2 days. I met Roy on Global Freeloaders where you can get free accommodations from other traveler-friendly types. It's a great service, and I'm very glad to have met Roy, and his roommate and girlfriend (as short-lived as it was). Unfortunately, I didn't feel like I was really seeing Texas. Austin is a much more liberal area and almost reminded me of Burlington, VT!! Many hippies, and cool cafes can be found in this university town. I missed the well-touted jazz festival, and the city was a bit sleepy that week, so I decided to move on. Thanks Roy!

Take a look at the pictures and then read the Austin Journal entry.

Curra's is a local institution serving up authentic Mexican food.

A cool coffeehouse downtown with good food, and free internet!

Capitol Building

Authentic Texan flags... no wonder we're at war...

Look at this joker!

And how F*cked up is this?  Recruit kids to be unwitting mascots to your party... Yuk!

This unnecessary door hinge was kind of cool though...

This whole place was making me sick.  I had to get out and wander the liberal UT campus.

My favorite find in Austin was Mojo's.
Thanks Roy for suggesting it!  This place is great!  Cafe, bar, lounge, club, and general meeting place for social justice types.
Cool!!!
