Sakya, Tibet
October 2, 2004

This was the one town we visited, but didn't stay in.  It's not on the main road, but has been discovered by tourists for its monastery.  I, however, had seen too many monasteries to be interested, so I went for a walk just outside of town to hang out with some locals, and see what kind of harvest they were producing.  But before I even left town I ran across a group of kids that were so cute.  We walked around and I even got the chance to do some harvest work!

Kids in Sakya

Before arriving in Sakya, we found these bikers cycling through Tibet!!  We had a flat tire and were hanging out
while Nema (our driver) and Eran fixed it, when about 7 cyclists showed up at this 5000 meter mountain top.

These kids weren't camera shy at all!!

It's amazing how young the kids have to start doing work. This 4 or 5 year
old girl was carrying hay - an almost useless amount of it! So why bother
forsaking an education, to carry a handful of hay? Well I don't know for sure,
but it's probably not for the purpose of actually helping, but rather to train
her from an early age, so she can start useful work sooner.

Her poor, young face is already as weathered as an elephant's back!

Josephine had to take this of me and show it to the kids to convince
them to take even 1 photo.  Once they saw it they couldn't get enough!!
