Pokhara, Nepal
October 26, 2004 - November 4, 2004

Pokhara is the second largest city in Nepal, but it looks much more like a cute little lakeside town.  It was discovered as a tourist haven by the hippies of the 70's and has developed its tourist market ever since.  The popular area to be is Lakeside, which is a strip of hotels, restaurants, shops, and travel agencies along the second largest lake in Nepal.  The most popular reason for visiting Pokhara, however, is the Annapurna mountain range.  This southern-most Himalayan range boasts 8000+ meter mountains and some for the best trekking in the world.  People who come to trek in Nepal usually come for the Annapurna circuit and the place they start is Pokhara.  From Lakeside you can enjoy a fine meal while taking in both the humble lake in the foreground, and the Annapurna's in the background.  And given that Pokhara lies at only 800 meters, the mountains appear that much bigger.  I spent most of my time relaxing by the lake, and walking around town, but only 2 days into being there I found myself DJing at various clubs and venues.  It was a nice way to spend my nights if nothing else.

Accidents in Nepal and India are notorious, and often extremely violent.  I had seen all sorts of gore in the
few days I'd spent on the roads of Nepal, but never could get my camera in time (if it was even appropriate).
I had my camera out for this one, but it certainly is more of a head-scratcher than anything gruesome.  They
drive on the left side of the road in Nepal, so this bus is in the wrong lane (aside from obviously being upside down).

Ah, the joys of street food!!
Somosa's and pakora.

Sadly, I didn't take a picture of my excellent hotel room.  It truly was the nicest place I'd stayed in since the 5-star
hotel in Sanya.  The cool thing about it is that they used the sun to heat their hot water.  Somehow I got steaming hot
water any time of day or night!  These are the water-heating panels.

Hard to see, but paragliders are almost always flying above the hilltops by the lake

I DJed a party at Club Planet Jet with Milan one day, and afterward he took me to all the local neighborhoods
he knew.  This is a swing all the communities of Nepal build at the beginning of Dasain festival (a week earlier).
