Kodori, Nepal

This is the border town with Tibet. It was sweet relief
coming from the border through no-man's-land and reaching this
little village where they are nothing like the Chinese (whom I came
to despise). It offers only a few shops and places to eat
dal bhaat, the national dish, but the extreme change in culture was welcome and it was my first
introduction to the warm, friendly Nepali ways.
This was the truck we hitch-hiked in through the 11km of no-man's-land between Tibet and Nepal

After a satisfying meal of dal bhaat (literally "lentil soup & rice",
but usually includes vegi curry and some very
spicy pickle side dish), these locals came to chat Andries and I up. They
were very friendly, and didn't end up
begging like they so often do in China.

A specialty along the river communities. I fear getting sick though, so I never tried it.
