Assisi, Italy
April 29, 2004 - April 30, 2004

Made famous by St Francis, who sold all his worldly possessions to choose a more rewarding life serving god. Well, an admirable guy indeed, and followed to this day by the Franciscan Monks and priests. The town is nothing short of the most fantastic hill side town in the Umbria region. I’m proud to say that I think these pictures almost do justice to the cute little Mecca.

I spent a few days here with my dad.  Mostly I just wandered the streets, and hiked the hills around the town.  I met Michelle, who was from Catholic University in the US.  She was traveling, and we were able to swap stories.  I shared travel stories, and she explained the religious significance of this town.  Good trade Michelle!  She was also the first to recommend The Da Vinci Code... what seems to be in every traveler's backpack this year.

I think if I had stayed a bit longer I would have seen a festival of some sort.  I did get to see the local musicians practicing for something though.

The castle on the hill had fallen into disrepair, but was being restored slowly

I love these 3-wheelers in Europe.

And here's the musicians practicing at midnight.  Kilometers away I could hear a different group practicing.

St Francis's tomb

Franciscan monks were everywhere, but I didn't get any pics except this
