Paris, France
March 24, 2004 - March 26, 2004

I spent 3 days in Paris. I stayed in the grungy (in a good way) Montmartre district right under Sacre Couer. Paris
deserves more time. I know that. But it was 9 degrees (Celsius) in the day, and 3 degrees at night and I had just come
from San Diego. I wasn't ready for the cold. Besides, the way I look at it, is I'll probably live somewhere in Europe someday
anyway, and Paris will be within my reach for weekend trips!

Most of my time was spent in the Montmartre district exploring the hillside, the red-light area, and Montmartre
cemetery.  The My last day I spent solely at the Louvre.  See the separate page just for the Louvre below.

View from my hostel balcony. Not bad!

Sacre Couer Cathedral

Not some sort of lame artsy attempt; this is a pic of the mysterious "street drains" all over Paris that do the opposite.
Are they called "street floods" then?

The top of Montmartre hill is one of the cooler places in Paris, though the
art dealers have claimed part of it as their own tourist trap

I love this door.  I have no idea were it goes, but it should be somewhere secret.
It's too cool to be a service room.

This is as close to the Eiffel tower as I got this visit

Cool old key hole

Montmartre Cemetery... creepy

This guy just wouldn't stop staring... Jeeze!

This was the first Turkish toilet I saw this trip... didn't use

Started to notice the cats about here...

Ack! It's like Where's Waldo for Cats!

Ah HA! Here's the culprit. Someone WANTS these cats here...

It's HER! She must feed and house thousands of cats! She can't work alone! It's a conspiracy!

Don't expect to find a free toilet in Paris!  Used to be 1 France... now it's 1 Euro!

Paris' famous Metro signs

This building, Montparnasse, was the first, and last skyscraper to be allowed in Paris.
It was such an ugly thing that a law was passed against anymore skyscrapers after it was built.

The river Seine

Very cool streets INSIDE buildings... the first architects for malls?

TGV! This was my first time on a speed train. 198 kph was as fast as we went.
