Xiamen,
China
August 10, 2004 - August 15, 2004
This island city is between Shanghai and Hong Kong. It belonged to many other countries over the years, but the British, who owned it last, really left their mark - all the buildings are very western. The city itself was nothing to write home about, but the island of Gulang Yu was a remarkably different place. It was a welcome respite from China's tiresome grind. |

They've got a decent university as well
Ok, ok... I've never eaten at Pizza Hut in the states, but I was told to go
to one in China.
Wow! Pizza Hut here is a gourmet restaurant. The atmosphere alone
was the nicest
in the city, but looking on the menu you'll find items like escargot, and a
full cocktail list.
Not at all like "the Hut" in the states! The food was still
gross American junk food though...

This was a sad thing. All the colonial mansions has just gone to waste,
and now seemed
to have squatters in them who of course let them fall into more disrepair.
"Lee was here" carved on bamboo... interesting place for graffiti
